    History:

The St. Benedict's Preparatory School rain garden was installed with funding from
The New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program, New Jersey Marine Sciences
Consortium/New Jersey Sea Grant Extension Program, and Future City, Inc.  With this
funding, three rain gardens were installed cooperatively by Future City, Inc. and the
Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program throughout Essex and
Union Counties.  These rain gardens include Benedictine Academy, St. Benedict's
Preparatory School, and Third-Westminster Presbyterian Church.

    Type of Runoff Managed:

This rain garden manages stormwater runoff from the St. Benedict's Preporatory
    School building.

    Installation:

Students and Future City, Inc. staff were present for the installation of the rain
garden in May 2008.  Community members and local businesses provided equiptment
and materials, and donated their time and expertise. Property managers were
involved in site planning, development and construction. The installation of this rain
garden was featured in The Tidal Exchange Newsletter of the New York - New
Jersey Harbor Estuary Program and a YouTube (TM) video:
