History:
The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Burlington County rain garden was installed as
part of the Stormwater Management in Your Backyard program that involved the
Master Gardeners of Burlington County.
Type of Runoff Managed:
This rain garden manages stormwater from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of
Burlington County building. The rain garden receives runoff from a downspout at one corner of the building. The area of the rooftop was estimated to determine the volume of runoff discharged through the downspout (based on a 1.25" rainfall event).
Installation:
Approximately ten Master Gardeners of Burlington County were present for the
installation of the rain garden in October 2007, which was approved by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Sand was added to the soil during the rain garden installation. Also, the rain garden was featured in the Burlington County Times.
