History:
The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County rain garden was installed
as part of the Stormwater Management in Your Backyard program that trained the
Master Gardeners of Cape May County.
Installation:
Rutgers Cooperative Extension Faculty and Staff and approximately twenty Master Gardeners of Cape May County were present for the installation of the rain garden in December 2007. A shallow trench was prepared along the roof drip line of this building to convey water into the rain garden. No soil amendments were needed
because of the sandy native soils present in this region of the State. Plants were
purchased from nurseries and some were donated by Master Gardeners who took
cuttings from there own gardens.
