History:
The Lawrence Nature Center rain garden was installed through a partnership with the Lawrence Green Team to intercept, treat, and infiltrate stormwater runoff from the roof of the Lawrence Nature Center building. This project serves as a demonstration for visitors and Township residents illustrating techniques to disconnect impervious areas, capture stormwater runoff, and protect water quality.

This rain garden manages stormwater runoff from the roof of the Lawrence Nature Center building.
Installation:
The Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program staff, Lawrence Township Department of Public Works, Lawrence Green Team, and community volunteers assisted with the installation of the rain garden in October 2010.With approval from Lawrence Township, a backhoe was used to install downspout connections to the rain garden location, excavate the garden area, and mix sand and mulch with the native soils. Native planting were installed in the rain garden by community volunteers and were purchased from Pinelands Nursery & Supply.
