    History:

The Benedictine Academy rain garden was
installed with funding from the New
York - New Jersey Habor Estuary Program, New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium/
New Jersey Sea Grant Extension Program and Future City, Inc.  With this funding,
three rain gardens were installed cooperatively by Future City, Inc. and the Rutgers
Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program in Essex and Union Counties. These
rain gardens include Benedictine Academy, Third- Westminster Presbyterian Church,
    and St. Benedict's Preparatory School.

    Type of Runoff Managed:

The rain garden manages stormwater runoff from a Benedictine Academy building via
    downspouts.

    Installation:

Students and Future City, Inc. staff were present for the installation of the
Benedictine Academy rain garden in May 2008. Community members and local
business members provided equiptment and materials, and donated their time and
expertise. Property managers were involved in site planning, development, and
construction.  The installation of this rain garden was featured in The Tidal Exchange
Newslestter of the New York- New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program and a YouTube
