Date of Anticipated Installation (MMDDYYYY):
Who will maintain the rain garden(s) on a short-term basis?:
Short-term maintenance typically occurs within the first few months of the rain garden
installation and consists of the following: watering, weeding, observing the rain garden
during rain events and noting any problems or successes, replacing mulch that has
washed away, caring for any newly-planted plants that may have been uprooted
immediately following rain events, and taking photographs.
Who will maintain the rain garden(s) on a long-term basis?:
Long-term maintenance typically occurs after the first few months of the rain garden
installation and continues throughout the life of the rain garden. Long-term maintenance
consists of the following: weeding, pruning, removing debris, litter, and sediment, cutting
down/mowing the rain garden at the very end or beginning of the season, preparing a
long-term photographic journal, removing/replacing plants that have not survived or that
are diseased, harvesting cuttings for future rain garden projects from the plants that have flourished, and applying new mulch.
How do you plan to conduct the stormwater management educational program?:
A stormwater management educational program typically consists of a series of
stormwater and rain garden educational presentations. If you decide to conduct training
prior to your rain garden installation, an option is to plan for a demonstration rain garden
installation immediately following a rain garden lecture - this will allow for "as-you-build"
instruction. Additonally, once the rain garden has been installed, a commmunity
education program is needed to continue teaching the community the importance of
stormwater management.
How do you plan to publicize your the rain garden to your community (newspaper, television, radio, website, etc.)?
